Add a little something extra to your cupcakes this New Year’s Eve with these easy origami star cupcake toppers!
There’s nothing like hosting a party, and there’s no party quite like New Year’s Eve. Personally, I love crafting party decorations and accessories, so when we hosted New Year’s last year, I went all out. I didn’t have the chance to share everything I made with you on here though, and so I thought I’d take the chance to share them with you now. I didn’t photograph each step unfortunately, and so I’m hoping that I’ve given you enough detail in the descriptions for each step below.
I’ve already shared some of the things I made, including this DIY Origami Star Backdrop and these DIY Metal-Dipped Party Glasses, but I had a lot of fun making these mini origami stars and felt really pleased with how they ended up looking. I have to admit that I didn’t leave myself enough time to make the cupcakes, and so I bought some ready-made and then added some glittery sprinkles on top, re-housed them in these pretty pink cases and added my cupcake toppers on top. However you may be seeing in the New Year, I hope you have a good one and I will see you in 2019!

Paper
Scissors
Cocktail Sticks
If it isn't already your colour of choice, paint an A4 piece of paper. I chose copper, white and pink to go with my Christmas decor and star backdrop.
Once dry, cut across the paper width to give you a strip that is approximately 1cm wide.
Grab one end of the strip and tie a knot.
Flatten this knot to give you a pentagon shape with a a short ‘tail’ from one side and the rest of the strip from another.
Tuck the short tail into the knot. You should now have a pentagon shape with the rest of the strip coming from one side of this shape.
Fold the rest of the strip over the pentagon keeping the left hand side in line.
Turn the shape around and keep folding the rest of the strip over the pentagon shape until you only have a small part of the strip left.
Tuck what remains of the strip under another fold of the knot.
Carefully pinch each corner of the pentagon shape and push inwards slightly to create a three-dimensional star shape.
Finally, grab a cocktail stick and push this into the bottom of the star and pop it on top of your cupcake.
