Celebrate the season of love with a repurposed wax heart-shaped candle!
I made a donut shaped candle using old wax a couple of years ago. At the same time, I had a go at making a heart shaped candle with the wax that I had spare. I never got around to sharing how I did it on here, and so I thought what better time than Valentines! Funnily, I tried to make these black at the time with food colouring gel. As you can see, that did not work at all lol! You could use this method to make any shape candle you want. It’s so easy but a really lovely way of making a unique handmade gift! Let me know if you have any tips on how to colour candle wax and let me know what you think of this project below! Don’t forget to share and subscribe :)
Old candle wax
Bowl
Saucepan
Card
Foil
Cellotape
First of all, gather your old wax and decide which wax you want to use. You might want to consider scents and colour in making your decision.
Next, grab your heart shaped cookie cutter and place foil over the bottom of it. Ensure that the sides are bent over the sides, that the foil is taught across the cutter and then secure with cellotape. This is your DIY candle mould!
Next, break up your wax so that it fits into a bowl and melt it altogether over a saucepan of hot water. Use a medium to low heat and melt it slowly and safely.
As the wax begins to melt, stir it well with something you don’t mind getting very waxy. Make sure that all of the colours are mixed well.
Next, take your wick, and drop a small amount of melted wax into the bottom centre of your mould. Press the wick into this wax and hold or use skewers to hold it in place until it’s set.
Once set, place your mould onto a flat tray (just in case you have any leaks!) and pour or spoon in melted wax into the mould on top of the set wick.
Keep filling until you are happy with the depth.
Leave this to set overnight.
Once set, squeeze the mould and attempt to loosen the candle from the mould. The candle may come out at this point, or if not, you can pop it into the freezer for 10 minutes, and try again.
