Make your tree feel more homely with these quick and easy clay house tree ornaments
We’ve all been home a lot more this year, and after BoJo’s announcement on Saturday, it looks like we’ll be spending far more time at home than most of us had planned. I feel very grateful for home, especially this year, and so I wanted to make some house shaped tree ornaments, not only because they’re cute, but to remind me of that. The changes to Christmas are still disappointing, they’ve certainly put a spanner in the festivities, and it’s more than ok to feel disappointed about it; you can be grateful and disappointed. Whatever you are feeling is valid. I imagine there are very few who will be completely unaffected by the changes, and very few Christmas plans that haven’t been scuppered. Whatever your plans may now be, I hope that you get to speak to those that are important to you, and here’s hoping that this will all be an unpleasant and distant memory by Christmas 2021.
Cut off some clay and knead until it feels more malleable.
Use a roller (preferably glass or acrylic) to roll this out onto a sheet of plastic (so it doesn’t stick) until it is your desired size and depth.
Draw out a house shape lightly on top, and using a craft knife carefully cut this out.
Remove the excess, and use a skewer to create a hole in the top.
Leave the clay to dry overnight, and then draw on your home design using a black fine liner or sharpie.
Cut off a length of ribbon, thread this through the hole and tie into a knot.
